Much of our time will be spent on location either in the gorge itself or elsewhere in the Mendips but there is plenty of material for any artist to paint inside and outside this lovely hotel. There are many spots in the good sized garden where you can paint either the garden or the views across the Somerset levels. Set in the historic medieval town of Axbridge which in itself has many places to paint.
There are many locations to paint within Cheddar Gorge which will encompass the gorge rocks, trees and flowers, quaint cottages, lakes and waterfalls. Burrington Combe, another gorge, which includes the famous "Rock of Ages" is also an ideal spot to paint. |
Other places on top of the Mendips such as Deer Leap and Burrington Common with views across the Bristol Channel to the Quantocks, Exmoor and Wales as well as the Somerset levels and Glastonbury Tor give plenty of scope for painting wild landscapes with mood and atmospheric skies. There is such diversity that can be painted within this holiday and Tim Fisher is the ideal tutor who will lead you through the aspects of capturing the awesomeness of the gorges and cliffs, the atmosphere of September skies and the beauty of water and landscapes generally. See our painting locations sheets supplied with your details for more information of these and other likely locations.
Guests will arrive from 4pm on the Sunday, where drinks will be served and there will be an evening meal. We will also run through the proposed itinerary which will also be sent in advance of the holiday for your reference. Painting will start at 9.30-10am and finish at 4-4.30pm and there will be a light lunch each day. This will either be at the hotel, a pub lunch or packed lunch dependant on location. The holiday will finish at about 4pm on the Friday after lunch.
