Please bring your own materials unless otherwise stated. Some folding chairs, boards and easels will be available for use when on site but if you have your own it is advisable to bring them.

For more detailed information please read the details below.

  Prices

Prices include tuition, bed, breakfast, lunch, evening meal and some drinks. If transport is provided to/from painting locations this is included in the price of the course too. Prices exclude art materials; paints, paper, brushes or any other accessories you require except where stated.

The key to the prices at the bottom of each course is as follows :-

Sgl Occ = Single Occupancy,
Dbl Occ = Double Occupancy, (price per person where room is shared with a partner or friend)
NPP = Non-painting partner, (where painter pays double occupancy price)
Non-Res = Non-residential (for local people)

Non-Residential Courses

Where space permits all the courses can be attended by local people on a non-residential basis. Evening meals can be provided for at an extra charge.

Short Breaks

If spaces are available we can provide for short break options within the 5 day course. This is subject to the course being run and numbers for this are limited.

The available options are for 2 or 3 day breaks. It is advised that beginners come at the beginning of the course and not the end. Available days are Mon-Wed or Wed-Fri for the 3 day break and Mon-Tue or Thurs-Fri for the 2 day course.

  Course Outline

Guests arrive from 4pm on the night before the course at the given hotel and you will be greeted by a member of staff from Cheddar Gallery or the hotel.

Drinks will be available and we will run through the itinerary at approximately 6pm and we will make any changes we consider necessary depending on individual needs and the weather prospects. Dinner will then be served between 6.30pm & 7.30pm depending on hotel/course. If you anticipate being later than that then please advise us and we will make any arrangements we can to cater for you.

Each artist will follow a different Programme throughout the day but each one will include some studio based "teaching", some "demonstration" work and plenty of hands-on training. According to the weather most courses unless otherwise stated will make the most of painting outdoors.

Breakfast times will vary but the course will start between 9-10am and lunch will be sometime between noon and 2pm depending on the artist/course and the course will finish between 4-4.30pm. There will be a break in the morning and afternoon for refreshments, if location permits. If we are painting at a location where this is not possible, drinks will be provided for where possible. We will always endeavour to ensure that we are never too far from facilities. Subject to individual needs this will be a short walk or occasionally a short drive.

Painting locations will always only be a short walk from the car park unless all guests agree to a longer walk for the sake of a view. We will always take into consideration the mobility of all guests when on location.

Evening meals throughout the course will normally be between 6.30-7.30pm depending on location. Often we will dine at the hotel but on occasions we will dine elsewhere. Some artists will provide demonstrations some evenings.

The course finishes at approximately 4pm on the final day of the course, at which point everyone will depart. You can arrange to stay extra nights either at the beginning of the course or at the end of it if you are travelling a long distance but there is an additional charge for this. For additional nights we charge B&B rates which is payable to Cheddar Gallery when the final balance falls due but additional meals during this period are paid direct to the hotel as required.

  Important Information

Deposits & Course Cancellations

All deposits are non-refundable unless a course is cancelled by Cheddar Gallery Limited, in which case we will refund all monies paid for the course. Cheddar Gallery will endeavour not to cancel a course unless absolutely necessary or events occur beyond our control but we do reserve the right to do so. If a course is cancelled, we can transfer you to another similar course or refund your deposit, as you prefer. If you are unable to come on the course once you have paid the full amount, we are unable to refund any money paid. It may be possible to transfer you to another course, if space permits but this cannot be guaranteed and there will be a small charge for this.

If you are unable to come on any course, please advise us as soon as possible in writing or email, in order that we can fill your place(s), otherwise the full amount could fall due, if within the 8 week period.

Transport

Under normal circumstances you would arrive at the hotel under your own transport. If you require a lift from the airport, train station or coach station we will do our best to pick you up, providing that it is at a reasonable hour. On occasions we may have to charge for this, if it is a long distance but from local distances we would not need to. Directions to the hotel will be sent with your booking confirmation letter.

When painting on location, we will normally be able to take most people in either the artist's car or one of our cars. It maybe necessary for you to use your own car and depending on the party this could be done on a rotation basis. If you do not have transport or do not drive then there will be space for you in one of our cars.

Materials Required

Unless otherwise stated it is expected that you will bring your own art materials. A separate list is supplied with each course as each course is different. It may be possible that we can supply you with paints/paper on the course at an extra cost should you run out but we cannot make any guarantee of this.

Many people have their own easels, boards and foldable chairs and we advise that you bring these if you have them but if you don't or you are travelling by train/coach we can supply these for you, in which case please indicate this on the booking form.

Cheddar Gallery

Each guest will receive 10% off all purchases over £10 of products in the shop. This excludes services such as custom made frames, photo printing services and future painting holidays.

Liability

To the best of our knowledge all the artists and hotels have public liability insurance. We also have our own public liability insurance. In the event of a holiday being cut short or cancelled for whatever reason, our liability is limited to no more than the total paid for the holiday, except in the instance of injury or death, which is in accordance with the laws governing Public Liability in which case any monies due to you would be covered under the public liability insurance of Cheddar Gallery Limited, the artist or the hotel according to liability and would be at the discretion of the insurance company. It is the responsibility of each guest to arrange their own travel insurance.
